Bringing a puppy into the U.S. from Europe

We are excited to be bringing home one of the Kasatori Sou Shikoku puppies next week (we will be co-owning "Takahiro" with Katja Weber).

Does anyone have any advice for traveling with an eight week old puppy in cabin? Would there be a duty charged for importing a puppy into the U.S.?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

You won't have to pay a duty or broker if the pet travels with you (in cabin or in cargo). You may have to get a broker if the pet is shipped alone, depending on the value that the shipper declared the animal is worth. I have dealt with some rather bitchy bureocrats at the US customs office. If the value is $2000 or more they may determine the dog is not a pet and is for "commercial use" and require a broker. Anyway, if the pet travels with a ticketed passenger you avoid that whole problem.
