Alternative treatments for soft tissue damage

edited August 2014 in General
Kage our 3 year old Kai has somehow injured his right front leg. After a month of meds from the vet still no improvement. The leg has been x-rayed and it's been determined it's soft tissue damage. The vet recommended confining him which is darn near impossible and meds that keep him kind of loopy.

What else can be done? I hate that he's hurting so much and he really can't be confined. I've really limited his activity. Are there any herbs or ointments or other optional remedies out there?

  • Geez... I don't know. Topical treatments don't seem like they would help soft tissue damage. Maybe laser therapy? It might be worth checking into.
  • cold laser maybe?
  • I would highly recommend laser therapy. It's done wonders for our Hanzo who recently suffered from a Frontline allergic reaction that turned into a nasty sore. We've also used it for our senior Akita's arthritis along with other treatments.

A vet tech at my vet office recently relayed a story about a dog that got bit by a snake before they got the laser that required a month to get under control/heal. That same dog a year later was bit by a snake again, but they had the laser, used it on him and it was nearly healed in a week. That's a single case, but I've seen for myself how efficacious it can be for certain injuries and chronic issues.

  • The vet isn't sure if it's a stressed or strained tendon or ligament. We don't have access to laser therapy in Corpus Christi. Any other recommendations?
  • Is this place near you or reputable? http://ahpi.us.tempcloudsite.com//index.html

It should only take 15 minutes or so and at my vet, the tech is certified and I don't even need to see the vet for the treatment.
