crossing NK breeds

edited April 2017 in Breeding
Just throwing a random question out there, has anybody ever done this before? If so, what were the results? Not that I think most of the NK community would allow that to happen, but I don't doubt that sadly there are BYBs out there who would try just because it's cool to have a rare NK mutt.

  • Few people have crossed NK because they thought they could cash in, but there have been a number of NK crosses.

These are the ones I know of worldwide:

    Japanese Akita x Shikoku Ken
    Shikoku Ken x Kishu Ken
    Hokkaido Ken x Kishu Ken
    Kai Ken x Shiba Inu
    Shiba Inu x Kishu Ken

    NK crossed to non-NK:
    Shikoku Ken x Cane Corso
    Shikoku Ken x Pomsky
    Kishu Ken x Golden Retriever
Shikoku Ken x West Siberian Lanka
    Kishu Ken x Coonhound
  • My first NK was a Kishu Ken cross. It was not a purposeful breeding and the sire was not known. Cross breeding definitely does happen on occasion, but as far as I know, there's very few breeders deliberately mixing the NK to other breeds.
  • And of course the extremely common American Akita x Japanese Akita
  • Whoa, how do they turn out?
