Raw feeding links

The topic of raw feeding has come up some and I thought I would share a few links about the raw prey model and benefits to raw feeding vs. kibble.

Getting started (detailed overview)

Raw Meaty Bones (Australian-based site showcasing work of Dr Tom Lonsdale) has a lot of information on feeding raw, including for non-canine pets. http://www.rawmeatybones.com/petowners.php

This is a blog I recently found and has some good info. it's done by a admin on a raw feeding FB group of same name. So far the blog posts I read have been good.

This is a nice site for info the pdf on it is good too

This spreadsheet is helpful on figuring out amount of meat and organs to give. I don't weigh bones as I'd have to take off all meat to do that. I feed bones on amount my dogs needs.

This picture is nice shows bone % on chicken. I think someone wrote down other animals, but not sure I could be wrong need look for it.

I think this is good idea to have thread with raw info to help people learn. I made a thread on shiba side, but good to have one on the Nihon ken side since not everyone care to have accounts on both forums..

I feed mainly prey model style, but also give items like oatmeal, buckwheat, honest kitchen and once in while home cooked meals.. I try to keep whole prey items in freezer either whole fish or quail. Quail is Saya's favorite food.

She's been on full diet since 8months old. I'm by no means an expert on the diet, but try to learn about it as much as I can.

Bella my parent's boxer is mainly kibble fed, but gets raw for dinner. she does well so far kibble in am and raw pm routine..

    Few pics of Saya eating.

Ground lamb that I got portioned out to be individually frozen I usually portion ground meat into 1oz, 2oz, to 3oz. I use them to mix supplement or to give as meal. I give ground turkey, beef and chicken sometimes too. local farmer had lamb for good price and being grass fed I stocked up.

I've ordered from couple places and if anyone else have please post your experiences with those places and where they are or website so people can find them if they live in range to it.

I've ordered from hare-today.com twice they're located in Springboro, PA and do customer pick up and shipping. shipping isn't too bad considering it's frozen items.. I usually get the $23 or $25 ship option and it came in time for my area.

I've gotten items two times from mypetcarnivore.com each time has been good. They do delivery drop offs at certain areas and has customer pick up at their location in Indianapolis.

I've ordered variety of things and quality has been good. The delivery drop off is a nice convenient thing had no issues with it times I did it.

Rawpaws is another option they have wide variety of items and prices are decent. Not sure on quality as I haven't tried them yet. I plan to eventually.. They require a one time membership fee.

I mostly get stuff from grocery store, butcher, meat processor, and farmer's market.

Saigo's fave are chicken necks, backs and wings. Makes sense, those are the boniest!
  • I like giving my puppies the extra bait fish that we catch while fishing. They love it. I descale, gut them, and cut the fins though. They like chicken and beef organs too. They got really good at "leave it" when using raw as their prize.
  • This is a great thread! I wanted to add this website I found through my research about raw feeding.
