Photos & Administrators
  • I would like to see a Sticky created on uploading photos simple step by step guide, with max' dimensions and size how to actually get them into the forum. Also I see there are many photos loaded but obviously hidden for some reason why? info on that would be needed as well plus what url you would use.
    You will have guessed I have no knowledge on such matters and I am sure there will be others in the future.

    Lastly I would like to see a Sticky only members can read with the Admin and Mod staff with the category they maintain so they can be contacted on issues such as this which don't really need to be placed in disussion categories.

    The forum doesn't host the photos (exception is avatars). You need to upload them elsewhere (flickr, photobucket, facebook, Google+, imgur, instagram, etc) and post the link. Most sites will generate "share" links for you, or you can grab the direct link to the .jpg and paste it into the code you get after clicking the Picture icon in the comment toolbar.

    Admins *cough* are volunteers who check in a few times a day. We don't have assigned categories. If there are photos you can't see it may be that the links are broken -especially in older threads where the person changed photo hosts, etc. and there's nothing we can do about that, because as zandrame pointed out, the photos aren't hosted here, only linked.

    I had already read the link in your comment hence my post to me it really didn't explain how to load a photo.

    Copy the line below. Remove the content within the quotes and replace with a link to an actual .jpg, .png, or .gif. The file must be hosted somewhere on the web, not located on your computer.
    Check if it works by clicking the comment Preview button.

    <img src="HTTP-YOUR-IMAGE-LINK.JPG">

    Example, using the google logo,

    From your intro I see you are trying to use dropbox. Dropbox is a bit wonky for direct linking images. Their links instead load a page with banners and interactive stuff. But there are a few different options you can use to make it work -

    Using one of the original links you posted,
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/n8p2wojsvj952s3/IMAG0018.jpg?dl=0

    1. Replace the "www.dropbox.com" part of the URL with "dl.dropboxusercontent.com"
    Result: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/n8p2wojsvj952s3/IMAG0018.jpg?dl=0

    or
    2. Change the "?dl=0" into "?raw=1"
    Result: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n8p2wojsvj952s3/IMAG0018.jpg?raw=1

    or
    3. Load the original URL in a browser, right click on the image, and copy the image URL. This gives a long awkward URL, but the size of the pic is more browser friendly (not full size).
    Result: https://photos-6.dropbox.com/t/2/AABgBjcfc3j9lJOP8ha7c-4d3VCT1iTv2kbGcTqEIk8ujQ/12/93678162/jpeg/32x32/1/1434186000/0/2/IMAG0018.jpg/CNLU1SwgASACIAMgBCAFIAYgBygBKAI/P2t1w_1RjSKBHgpfsB5sEnp7rEcIJoECyeWcbQ8v1F8?size=1024x768&size_mode=2

    And don't forget to put it into the actual img code from the toolbar (or copy/paste from below). It MUST look like this to show up as a picture when you post it instead of a text link!
    <img src="LINK-HERE" />
  • Thanks a lot for your help zandrame
    First one I couldn't get to work but raw=1 did.
    I chose to use dropbox as I have used it a couple of times in the past so had a vague idea.
    I tried photobucket first but always ended up with greyed out areas in pop up box and couldn't understand what was wrong.

    Sorry I don't quite get the last paragraph on img code tried it by highlighting text link and clicked image in toolbar. Only one photo appeared and grossly oversized and blurred.

    Yeah, the first 2 methods give you the original file (I'm assuming), which is huge. The third gives a scaled version (1024x768).

    Putting the link within the img code will look like this, for each of 3 methods. Copy one completely from < to > and try it out-

    <img src="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/n8p2wojsvj952s3/IMAG0018.jpg?dl=0" />

    <img src="https://www.dropbox.com/s/n8p2wojsvj952s3/IMAG0018.jpg?raw=1" />

    <img src="https://photos-6.dropbox.com/t/2/AABgBjcfc3j9lJOP8ha7c-4d3VCT1iTv2kbGcTqEIk8ujQ/12/93678162/jpeg/32x32/1/1434186000/0/2/IMAG0018.jpg/CNLU1SwgASACIAMgBCAFIAYgBygBKAI/P2t1w_1RjSKBHgpfsB5sEnp7rEcIJoECyeWcbQ8v1F8?size=1024x768&size_mode=2" />

  • Thanks a lot for your help once again zandrame,
    I seem to have got it right?
    Is there a preffered size as in photo dimention to use for posting on forums as this would enable me to do a better job of it to start with.

    Sorry to be such a noob on embedding.

    The forum will resize the pics to fit the width of the thread, but the full thing is still loaded in the background. In general, if the pic is wider than the thread's text content, it is bigger than necessary.
  • Yes I did notice for a split second the shot being huge then shrink, thought it was because I shrank the photo sizes before reloading the link right.

    So now the photos are showing in the thread without need to access them is that how it should be?
    But they are actually being seen from dropbox?
