Frontline & Heartguard -- where to get them?

edited July 2013 in Akita (秋田犬)
I just picked up Sammie's Flea control & HeartGuard meds and it cost almost $50, I went online and looked up online orders and they are a lot cheaper.

I am wondering if it's the same meds from online store such as 1800petmeds

or I should get it from my Vet's office just to be safe?

thanks

  • I believe heartguard will need a prescription . I have seen frontline at Costco. You can do online retailers as well.
  • Yes, it's the same product at 1800 petmeds. I've bought from there for years. You do need to enter your vet's name and clinic so Petmeds can call and confirm they wrote a prescription, but thats easy and vets are used to it.
  • Heartgard I just get at the et but Frontline Plus I buy at Sams....
  • You can get all the frontline you want from pet edge.com. I used to use the zodiac flea treatments on my dogs. You can get 48 applications for about $60. I just have a hard time getting the treatments down to the skin with any of the topicals (operator error) so we use Trifexis now.

You do have to have a prescription for heartworm meds. They could be harmful to a dog that already has heartworms, so the vet has to do a blood test to make sure it's safe.
