  • Interesting, thanks for sharing!
  • Canaan dogs are gorgeous! At the last pet hospital I worked at we had a regular named Ezra, she had the most beautiful dark brown eyes with black "eyeliner" and sandy orange colored fur. She had a great temperament, a little reserved/aloof, but absolutely bonded to her owner. Was my second choice for a dog breed before I learned about Shikoku Kens.
  • The comments on that article are... something.

This is the blog of the owner of the kennel of the article is about: http://myrnash.blogspot.com/

They're another breed I'm considering for a future dog. Gorgeous animals, and they sound like they'd be fascinating to live with from everything I've read.
  • I was also very interested in possibly getting a Canaan dog before I discovered the Shikoku. Canaan's are great dogs. I am friends with a breeder here in Reno and she sent me a link that kinda goes with this topic:

These dogs are not endangered at all. They still exist in the Levant via Palestinian settlements, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria; but because people are stupid enough to believe the Menzel's stock is the only correct type, they are believed to be going extinct for some bizarre reason.

Even Boykos said the Canaan is much more than just Israel.
  • I've actually never really heard fear that they're going extinct... more just that relatively few people seem to have particular interest in gathering stock from elsewhere.

I was joking with a friend once that we should utilize his Arabic skills someday and go to Jordan so I could get a dog and he could see Mount Nebo.
